Take a piece of history home. I made this vessel for Queen City, a monumental structure standing tall on land previously owned by a black community. It was seized by the government in 1941 to make room for the Pentagon. 903 displaced residents of the Queen City neighborhood are represented by handmade ceramic vessels made in the shape and color of a drop of water.
Nekisha Durrett, the artist behind the installation, commissioned 17 Black ceramists from Washington DC, California, Virginia, Maryland, New York, Georgia, Connecticut, Missouri, Florida, Minnesota, and Michigan to make 903 ceramic teardrop vessels that signify the displaced individuals of Queen City. -The opening on this vessel was too small, so it couldn't be used. It has a hole on the bottom, so it cannot hold water, but is great for displaying a dried arrangement, or suspended somehow.
I have two of these vessels, I've decided to keep one, and I'm selling this one. I hope it goes to a person.
